Step 1: Open the web browser on your phone or tablet
(e.g., Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
Step 2: Type “expiwell” into the search bar. The option to download the app is the second one.
Press install.
Step 3: Press install again.
Step 4: Press open.
Step 5: When prompted, make sure to choose allow so we can send you notifications about the study. We need to be able to send you notifications through the app so you know when a task is ready to complete, and so you can complete it within the required time frame. If notifications are not allowed, you might miss out on some parts of the study.
Step 6: Create an ExpiWell account. Enter your email address and create a password for the app. Tick to agree to the terms and privacy policy, and then press sign up.
Step 7: Choose the email address you just used to create the account. You will now receive a confirmation email from ExpiWell welcoming you to the app.
Step 8: You can now use the app! You will see a welcome screen that tells you about more about the app. Press next through the four screens. At some point during these next four screens, you may receive a message about battery saving and turning it off. Expiwell will not put a big drain on your phone’s battery life, so don’t worry about this. If this message comes up press ‘Go to Settings’. This will just make the message go away, and you can continue with the app set-up.
Step 9: You will get a screen that looks like this when you have gone through all the set-up steps:
When you are Ready to Begin the Study, Complete the Following Steps
Complete the next steps when you are ready to begin the study. Once you do this part, the first day’s survey will become accessible immediately and be available for 24 hours only. It is best to do these steps and then complete the day one survey straight away, so you don’t forget to do it. It will take 15-20 minutes.
Please note that the app calls all tasks and parts of the study “experiences”.
Step 10: The home screen of the app should look like this. Press the plus icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the app.
Step 11: Enter the code “vuwstudy” for this study. This will be the only time you will have to enter this code.
Step 12: Enter today’s date. This will make the first part of the study available to you immediately.
Step 13: The home page will have a white rectangle that says “Memory Study.”
Click the white rectangle
Step 14: Another screen will open, showing a white rectangle with the name of a task to complete.
Press the Green button to start the task.
